Eugenio Barba:
When it comes to observing the NOH (Japanese theatre), those who truly understand the art watch it with the spirit, while those who do not merely watch it with their eyes. To see with the spirit is to grasp the Substance, to see with the eyes is merely to observe the effect. Thus it is that beginning actors merely grasp the effect and try to imitate that.

My goal has always been to understand the spirit or mind-set of the piece or character.
By doing this, I am able to take the work to a NEW dimension
and thus create more than just an imitation!
All art at its very core is interpretation.
